Partners can initiate and cooperate individual projects. HME can conduct the project management of individual projects under the umbrella of the platform and communicates the status and outcomes of these projects to all partners, according to the content of the individual project. Therefore a project plan is preferred to contain an estimate for costs related to in- and external communication and reporting related to the project extent.
The platform Broadband@Sea will continue where the first phase has stopped and conducts technical and commercial projects:
· Technical development projects; these projects mainly concern the different technologies which enable the use of maritime broadband, the different sorts of maritime broadband connections and other communication networks on board ships. Furthermore, these projects will also look into different applications which are necessary to be implemented for broadband purposes. Examples are Influence & effects of latency and Remote Condition Monitoring.
· Commercial added value projects; the commercial projects will elaborate on the different applications for maritime broadband connections and its impact on the return of investment. This unit will delve onto the use and especially the financial return for ship-owners by conducting trials on board ships. The initial target is to reveal the return on investment and subsequently to gain knowledge on different applications. The commercial projects will incorporate the techniques researched by the technical group. Also, this group will actively keep the cost/ prices up to date of the different broadband satellite providers. Examples are ROI analysis and Advantages of applications.
Communication & integrity
Outcomes of individual projects are expected to be uploaded on the website of Broadband@Sea. Only platform partners can have access to this information in case the partners within the individual project decide to act accordingly. If any confidential information of an individual project can’t be shared with other platform partners, it will not be published. Visitors of the website, not being platform partners, have only limited access to information.
